二、完形填空(每小题1.5分,共15分)
It is always hard to get out of bed on a cold winter morning. As I try to get out of bed, I sometimes think, “How
21
it would be if I were a bear! I would then sleep in the whole winter
22
the following spring.”
Bears start preparing for hibernation(冬眠) in early autumn. They eat up to 40 kg of food a day—almost three times as much food as they
23
eat in summer. Their weight can increase by 10 kg to 15 kg every week. When winter arrives, bears have a
24
time finding fruit or hunting animals. To get through the cold months, they fall into long periods of sleep in order to save their strength.
After bears go into hibernation in winter, they do not eat or drink; their stored fat will be broken down to
25
energy. Throughout the winter, they
26
15 to 20 percent of the body weight. After the weather becomes
27
, bears come out from the holes. They eat early spring plants and hunt small animals for food.
Do all bears hibernate? Well, polar bears don't need to do so. They are used to living in cold weather. Also, bears in zoos do not hibernate if they are
28
food in winter. However, this is unhealthy for these animals, because it may cause
29
to become overweight. Most zoos now allow bears to hibernate. If you don't see the bears when you visit a zoo in winter, you should be
30
for them. It possibly means that they are enjoying a healthy sleep.

三、阅读理解(每小题2分,共20分)
A
Rainforests are amazing places full of different kinds of plants and animals. Can you believe that a single forest in the Amazon may have more kinds of ants than the whole of Britain? And in just one small part of the rainforest, there can be about 480 different kinds of trees.
Rainforests have a smart way of staying healthy. The tall trees make a canopy(树冠层) of branches and leaves which protects themselves, smaller plants, and the forest animals from heavy rain, great dry heat from the sun and strong winds. They really play an important role in the health of the rainforests.
The trees in the rainforests grow in an interesting way. Even though they are close to each other, their branches and leaves never touch those of another tree. Scientists think this is the trees' way to protect themselves so that they won't get diseases from another tree. It also makes it more difficult for insects, which eat leaves, to move from one tree to another. To live in the forest, animals must climb, jump or fly across the space between trees.
Rainforests get their name for a reason—they get a lot of rain! They can make $75\%$ of their own rain. At least 80 inches of rain a year is normal, and in some areas, there may be as much as 430 inches of rain every year. In just two hours, rivers can rise ten to twenty feet. The humidity(湿气) of large rainforests helps to form rain clouds that may travel to other countries which are in need of rain. Rainforests are a part of nature and they help support the environment and keep our planet healthy.
