Edward got up early on the morning of the New Year. He wished a happy New Year to his family. Then he ran into the street to repeat that to people in the street.
When he came back, his father gave him two bright new one-dollar coins.

As he was running happily in the street, he saw a poor family.

When Edward came home, his father asked what books he bought. He said, “I didn’t buy any books. I gave my money to some people in need. They were so hungry.” He went on, “I think I can wait for my books till next New Year.”
“My dear boy,” said his father, “here are the storybooks you want, as a reward for your kindness. I saw you gave the money to the poor German family. It was nice for a little boy to do so. Be always ready to help others and every year will be a happy New Year.”
