Each of us fights for self-respect and self-worth from time to time. I spent much time trying to achieve perfection in everything of my life.
I was a happy kid with a lot of friends and a supportive family. But growing up was really 1 and even scary (恐怖的) sometimes.
During my childhood, I always cared about something that included people's thoughts of my 2 or my failures (失败). I wanted everyone's praise and acceptance.
After I graduated from high school, I decided to be on a diet (节食), and that began to trouble me. I began trying to diet by 3 my food.
Soon, people around me began to notice my weight loss. They said with care, "You are losing too much weight." "Elisa, you're so 4." All their words only suggested that I was getting closer to "perfection".
Sadly, I took my appearance (外貌) the most important in my life, 5 that it was the way to become successful and accepted.
Then I cut down my food more and more, 6 one day I only had half a teaspoon of nonfat yogurt (脱脂酸奶) and coffee in the morning, and a cup of grapes at night.
Soon my 7 nutrition (营养) began to cause me to lose sleep. Then one night, my heart felt as though (仿佛) it might beat out of my body. I tried to 8, but I couldn't. The beating became so fast and so strong that I could no longer breathe (呼吸). I was really 9 and I knew I needed help. My roommate rushed me to the hospital, and I began the long road to my recovery (康复).
With my 10 of trying to be "perfect" on the outside, I realized I had sacrificed (牺牲) who I was on the inside. What I know is, we are — each of us — already perfect.
