Making friends at school can be a little hard—but it doesn't have to be! Try a few of these ways. Before you know it, you'll have a group of friends to have fun with!
■ Be friendly.
Using right body language will help—stand up straight, make eye contact (交流) with people, and smile! Try to avoid crossing your arms over your chest (胸前) and looking closed off. That doesn't seem nice. The more open and friendly you look, the more people will want to get to know you.
■ Sit at a new table during lunchtime.
Look for tables with an open seat. If you're feeling a little shy, pick a table that only has one or two people sitting down. Head over and ask if you can sit there, and then join in the talk. If you like the people you sit with, ask if you can join them again the next day.
■ Try out for a sports team.
Pick a sport that you like (it could be soccer, basketball, softball, baseball or anything), and try out for the team. Over time, you could become good friends with other people on your team! If your school doesn't have a sports team, try looking for one at your local community centre.
■ Join an after-school club.
Meet friends who hold the same interest as you. Ask a teacher or your parents for a list of after-school activities and pick 1 or 2 of them that you're the most excited about. Introduce yourself to everyone when you have your first club meeting to meet new people and start a fun talk.

You may study differently from your friends, but your study habits are not wrong!
Kelly and Maria are best friends with a lot of common interests. They love doing things together, but they find studying together impossible Their working styles are so different that they can't be in the same room while they are studying!
Kelly would like to study in a clean, open space, while Maria works best with books, papers and other things around her. Kelly likes to study in a totally quiet room, but Maria loves to play music or even have the TV on. Kelly can sit for hours without moving, and often gets all her homework finished in one sitting. Maria, however, is always getting up, and says that she thinks best when she's on the move.
You might wonder which way of studying is better. Many people believe that a quiet, tidy setting (环境) is the way to go, ▲. Some research (研究) even showed that outside noise and untidiness (杂乱) help some people focus, because they make them have a "wall" in their mind around what they are doing and improve their focus.
So, if you're a student who chooses to study when sitting at a table in a busy shopping centre, don't worry about it. If you work in total quietness, that's OK too. Judging(参照) from Kelly and Maria's study habits, the best way to study is the way that works for you. In their very different ways, both of them do well in school, and both finish their work on time.
