Alonso Duralde is a well-known movie critic(评论员) in the US. He explores and writes about movies for a few famous publications(出版物). In an interview,he talked about his career.
What was the first movie that hit you?
The first movie that I remember seeing in the theatre was *Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory*. I was four years old,but the movie has stayed with me. To this day,I still clearly remember its images.
How did you get into movie criticism?
Everyone in my family loves watching movies. But my dad never expected any of us to become a movie critic. He was a doctor, and he wanted his children to follow in his footsteps. Three of my brothers are doctors. I also have a sister who is a doctor.
One of my brothers went to Harvard in the early 1970s. He came home with many books about movies. These books interested me a lot. I wrote my first movie review for my middle school paper. Then,I wrote movie reviews for my high school paper and my college paper. I never stopped writing movie reviews after this.
Have you ever had difficulty writing?
Oh,yeah. Sometimes, the words just flow out of you. Other times,it's...“ca-chunk ca-chunk”. A lot of it has to do with what you're writing about. For certain movies, you see them and you immediately(立即)know what you want to say. The “perfect” movies can be difficult to write about. But it can also be difficult to write about “terrible” movies. They leave no impression, but you still have to write a certain number of words about them!
Do you pick which movies you want to see?
▲ Many movie critics like to write about blockbusters(卖座大片). But I prefer to write about some of the smaller, yet more interesting movies. Usually,I watch and review no more than five or six titles a week.
(
A. to help moviemakers create perfect movies
B. to share their opinions about movies with movie fans
C. to write movie reviews for newspapers and magazines
D. to watch movies and offer suggestions for improvements
(
A. often refuses to write about them
B. has to think and write about them anyway
C. has to watch them twice before writing something
D. often immediately knows what he wants to say about them
(
A. No,I don't. B. Yes,always. C. Um ... never. D. What do you think?
