Once upon a time, there was a very silly man. One day, he decided to steal (偷) a bell from his neighbour's yard. He went into the yard and took hold of the bell, but as soon as he pulled it, the bell made a loud sound. The thief was afraid. He thought, "This noise will bring people! I must do something to stop the noise."
Then he had an idea. He thought, "If I cover my ears, I won't hear the bell, and no one else will hear it either." So, he covered his ears, went back to the bell, and pulled it again. The bell rang loudly, but because his ears were covered, he couldn't hear anything.
However, the loud bell sound attracted his neighbour and other people. They came to see what was happening. The silly man was still trying to steal the bell, with his ears covered, not knowing that everyone else could hear the bell.
The neighbour laughed and said, "Just because you can't hear it, that doesn't mean others can't!"
