Ernest Hemingway was not only a great American writer but also a man with amazing experiences. He wrote many best - selling books, such as The Old Man and the Sea and The Sun Also Rises. His stories show much about his thoughts and values, but to truly understand Hemingway, we (1) understand his life.
Hemingway was born in the USA in 1899. As a young man, he wanted to fight in World War I, but his poor eyesight kept him from joining the army. He quickly figured out (2) in a different way. He became an ambulance driver. Later, during World War II, he served as a journalist. In that role, he could choose (3) . He went to war zones in England, France and Belgium, and wrote about historical moments, including the famous Normandy landings.
After the war, Hemingway continued his life of adventure. He loved deep - sea fishing, hunting and bullfighting, and he travelled often.
