Helping poor communities
A Read the leaflet about Room to Read, a global charity, and answer the questions.
Room to Read
Did you know that more than 773 million people cannot read? At Room to Read, we believe every child should have the chance to read, learn and grow. We are working to make the impossible possible, through education.
Who we are
Room to Read was founded in 2000. We focus on helping children develop strong and lasting reading skills and a habit of reading. We also focus on girls' education. Much of our work takes place in low-income communities because children in these areas often have fewer educational chances.
What we do
Our work involves carrying out programmes that benefit children. We publish books in local languages, train local teachers and help girls build skills. We also work with local governments to build libraries, schools and computer labs to provide safe and welcoming spaces to children.
What we've achieved
Since Room to Read started, we have worked in 29 countries and helped more than 50 million children. We have put over one billion US dollars towards education around the world. And our work continues as we reach even more communities every year.
How to help
You can help Room to Read by donating to our programmes. We also need a big team of volunteers to keep our programmes running, so we are always looking for people to lend a hand. Finally, you can help us by spreading our message. Get your friends and family excited about Room to Read and about helping children around the world!
