I just got back from a holiday … at an eco-hotel on a beautiful island! What an experience! When I first arrived, I noticed some interesting things. The hotel avoids using plastic, so there weren't any plastic water bottles anywhere. Instead, there was a glass bottle in my room. You know what else there was? A wooden toothbrush and a wooden comb in the bathroom. Cool!
But then things got a little difficult. I ran into some problems. First, I had trouble with the shower. After just ten minutes, the shower turned itself off to save water. I thought it was broken! It also had a low-flow shower head. That means that less water comes out of the shower head. I didn't enjoy that at all.
Later, I went to the hotel restaurant for dinner. Since the restaurant doesn't provide paper napkins, I was given one cloth napkin. Unfortunately, I spilled sauce all over my hands and the table, and one napkin wasn't enough to clean up the mess. I had to ask a waiter for help.
To be honest, my first two days at the eco-hotel were challenging. But by the end of my trip, I got used to this new way of life. On my last evening there, there was a very bad storm. A worker at the hotel told me that these storms were becoming more common on the island because of climate change. That really made me think about the importance of eco-friendly habits. It changed how I felt about the small inconveniences. Actually, it was great to know that I was creating less waste, using less water and helping the environment.
