But for a growing number of young people, the site is not a place to look for friends, but dazi, or "activity partner".

She made a group in late March, and organized a trip of the Shanghai Firefighting Museum in April with other families that have children of similar ages. "That was great," says Bu.
"We like doing things together. This is why young people are crazy (疯狂的) about finding dazi these days," says Yu Hai, a professor at Fudan University. "It's also good for young people to take part in more gatherings to practise their social skills."
