In China there are 24 Solar Terms in a year and they are important to our life. The Beginning of Autumn (立秋) is the 13th of them and it means the end of summer and, of course, the beginning of autumn. What do you know about it?
Autumn Tiger
The Beginning of Autumn means the end of summer, but hot weather doesn’t come to an end. Hot days after the Beginning of Autumn usually last for days or weeks and people call them “Autumn Tiger”.
Gathering (收割) crops
The Beginning of Autumn is a big Solar Term for farmers. It is time to gather crops. There is a saying, “If it rains on the day of the Beginning of Autumn, a good harvest is coming.”
Eating dumplings

Touching Autumn is a custom in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. On the eve of the Beginning of Autumn, people can touch and take away some vegetables and fruit in other people’s gardens without paying. The gardeners think it can make them have more vegetables and fruit next year.
