The ancient capital city of Chang'an is now Xi'an in Shaanxi Province. It was a capital city of choice for the greatest number of dynasties in Chinese history. As many as thirteen dynasties made their capitals there. Chang'an (1)(know) to be the world's longest serving capital city as well. Built in a symmetrical (对称的) form, with streets designed like a chessboard, Chang'an was the greatest city of its time. After (4)(end) more than 300 years of war after the Eastern Han Dynasty, Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty began to build Daxing City. In the year AD 618, Li Yuan established the Tang Dynasty and changed the name of Daxing to Chang'an which meant "peace forever".
