Amy is writing an article about the writer Hans Christian Andersen. Circle the mistakes and correct them in the blanks below.
What do "The Little Mermaid", "The Ugly Duckling" and "The Emperor's New Clothes" all have in common? These classic fairy tales were all wrote by Hans Christian Andersen, one of the world's greatest storytellers. His stories are loved by children and adults all over the world because they are fun, magical and full of meaning.
Andersen was born into a poor family in Denmark in 1805. As a young child, he loved telling stories and putting on shows. His mother wanted him to become a tailor, but Andersen had no interest in learning what to make clothes. He was enough interested in acting and storytelling to do that. In 1819, he moved to Copenhagen to follow his dream of becoming an actor.
This decision took great courage. At first, it was difficult for him earning money in Copenhagen. But he never gave up. Soon, he helped by a director of a local theatre. This director encouraged Andersen to start writing stories. In 1829, Andersen published his first work, but it wasn't until 1835 that his first book of fairy tales published.
For 1835, children around the world have read and loved these famous fairy tales. Andersen's wonderful stories last for almost two centuries—and will surely do so in the future.

Read the article about a can's life journey. Put the events in the correct order and write the numbers (1-6) in brackets.
The ups and downs of my life as a can
Like most cans, I started my life in a factory. I was designed to be a soda can. Right after I was made, I was filled with soda and sent off to a shop in a big city. A young man bought me from the shop and brought me to a picnic on the beach with his friends. That was a wonderful afternoon! I loved being around so many people, and I felt so useful and important.
After the picnic, things went wrong. When the young man was finished with me, he simply threw me away. Just like that. I was left on the beach, empty and alone. I sat there for days and days. I felt lonely and useless the whole time. Nobody wanted me anymore. I wondered, "Will I lie here forever, forgotten?"
But then my luck changed. A small boy noticed me shining in the sunlight. He picked me up and took me home. There, he washed me, cut me into new shapes and turned me into a beautiful flower. Now I sit on his shelf as a piece of art! Guests often stop to look at me and admire me. I'm quite proud to be so useful again.
