B
If your hometown were to be pulled down one day, would you miss it? And what would you do to protect it? Huang Yongfu gave us his perfect answer.
Huang and his wife lived in a small village. The village was far from the town, and most houses there were built decades ago, with grey walls and few decorations. Local people never paid much attention to those old walls. After he retired(退休), Huang had plenty of free time. He started painting lovely animals, beautiful flowers and even interesting village stories on the walls of his house just for fun. The once lifeless walls soon became the most eye-catching spot in the whole village. Later, his neighbours asked him to paint their houses too. His paintbrush brought a second "life" to those dull old houses.
In 2008, the village was going to be pulled down, because most villagers had moved away. To save his hometown, Huang decided to paint every street in the village. The old man covered every street, wall and door in the whole village with bright, lovely colours.
In 2010, some university students happened to pass by the village. They were amazed by Huang's cute and lively artwork. These students then started the "Save Rainbow Village" project. It was a big success, and the village soon became an art park. Huang himself became famous as "Grandpa Rainbow".
Now, Rainbow Village has become a well-known tourist attraction. It welcomes over one million visitors every year. Grandpa Rainbow finally made his dream come true—he saved his beloved village. Although Grandpa Rainbow passed away on January 23, 2024, people will remember him and his warm story forever.
