In English, there is an old saying, “All good things must come to an end.” We can often see good friends part. This, however, might not be true for the six friends in Friends—the friendships between these characters never end.
Friends was on from 1994 to 2004. It is one of the most popular TV dramas around the world. It tells the story of six young people. They come to New York City, hoping to find love, achieve success and have a great time. They’re all different from each other, yet they become really good friends.
There’s a lot we can learn from this show, not just English. One thing is how to build true friendships. As the actress who played the role of Rachel said, “Back in the 1990s, there were no smartphones. It was just friends sitting around and talking with each other.” If you want to have lifelong friends, don’t just talk with them online. Make sure you’re always there for them. When they’re happy, share the joy. When they’re sad, give them a shoulder to cry on. That’s what real friendship is all about, just like the friends in Friends!
