Changed into a cultural and creative neighbourhood, a messy and old living area in Jining City, East China's Shandong Province, has become a well-known place, visited by many people.
“It's my dream to make culture a fashion,” said Zhang Hang, a young man of the post-90s. In 2023, he brought some people, who had similar ideas to his, together through the internet.
It took them no more than three months to refresh this area and change it into a cultural and creative neighbourhood. That is a collection of all kinds of traditional culture, such as traditional Chinese hanfu, instruments and music, poetry, wine, local specialty food, and tea art.
“When I'm free, I like to ride my bike to the villages nearby and to pick up something old for inspiration (灵感),” said Lin Jie, the designer of the neighbourhood.
The changes have brought many young people to open their stores there. “I fell in love with hanfu when I was a child, and I spent almost all of my pocket money making hanfu. I have realized my dream to open a hanfu store here,” said Yang Youxi. The local government said that they would provide young store owners in this area with money and knowledge (知识), and help spread the creative changes and China's traditional culture.

As the saying goes, “It takes a village to raise a child.” And one neighbourhood in our community truly understands the importance of coming together to support each other.
Last summer, a couple with their family moved into our neighbourhood. They had a daughter named Lily, who was born with a physical disability that made it difficult for her to walk. However, she was always seen with a smile on her face. She would like to make friends with others and be a part of the community.
When Lily played outside with her new neighbours, she faced a challenge. Because of her disability, she couldn't take part in some of the activities the other kids were taking part in. And it was hard for them to understand her needs. This made Lily feel a little upset and left out.
