三、阅读理解
A
Animals grow up in different ways and have many lessons to learn. Some animals are born helpless, and their mothers protect them. For example, a newborn kangaroo is the size of a bee and stays in its mother’s safe pouch. It doesn’t open its eyes for at least five months. A newborn monkey can’t walk and is carried by its mother.

Other baby animals can walk soon after they’re born. They quickly learn to run alongside their mother when danger is near. A baby zebra (斑马) can run an hour after it is born.
Some baby animals are born in a safe place, while others are born in the open. Baby wolves are born in large holes. Baby elephants are born on open grassy land, with other elephants making a circle (圈) to protect them.
Animals that drink their mother’s milk are called mammals (哺乳动物). A mother bear’s milk is fatty and rich. Baby bears need lots of fat to stay warm in winter. They drink milk for six months. Baby zebras drink milk for six months or more! As they grow, baby animals start needing solid (固体的) food. Baby lions, for example, eat what their mother catches.
