四、阅读理解
In China, there is a special kind of painting called Spring Festival pictures, or New Year pictures. Traditionally, people put up these colourful pictures at their homes and on their doors during the Spring Festival. They help people say goodbye to the old year and welcome the new one while wishing for good luck and keeping away bad things.
In the past, New Year pictures often showed legendary (传说的) heroes to drive away bad luck and bring good luck. Since these pictures were placed on doors, they were sometimes called door - god pictures. During the Tang Dynasty, two heroes, Qin Shubao and Yuchi Gong, were popular as door gods. Another well - known figure was Zhong Kui. All these pictures aimed to ensure the family was safe and healthy.
By the end of the Ming Dynasty and the beginning of the Qing Dynasty, there were more ideas for New Year pictures. Many new ideas showed the hopes and wishes of ordinary people, such as “the kylin bringing a new birth to the family”, “having good luck year after year”, “a good harvest of all crops”, and “healthy livestock (六畜兴旺)”.
Today, the tradition continues as Chinese people still put up Spring Festival pictures on their doors to welcome the new year and wish for good luck.
