The tunnels help air and water reach the underground parts of plants. This makes the soil wet and loose（疏松的）. Earthworms also eat dead leaves and dead plants. Then they pass the waste（粪便）into the soil. Their waste is filled with nutrients（营养物）. This makes the soil rich.
The earthworms may be small, but they are very important. They help feed us and keep us healthy.
